Adventure Paddles

These locations are for paddlers who enjoy all day adventures that include both hiking and paddling!

Summit Lake, Hatcher Pass*

Approx. 35 minute drive from pickup location

AK Paddle Venture favorite!

This is the easiest, but not the warmest adventure paddle. You can drive right up to this lake nestled at nearly 4,000 ft above sea level in Hatcher Pass. A BEAUTIFULLY scenic drive delivers you to this small lake near the tops of the mountains. The elevation of this lake lends itself to colder water temperatures and potential for snow! But hey, when in Alaska, do as the Alaskans do!

Gold Cord Lake, Hatcher Pass*

Approx. 30 minute drive from pickup location

Just down the road from Summit Lake begins the hike up to Gold Cord Lake. The hike is considered "moderately challenging" on popular hiking websites, and is estimated to take about an hour to complete. After taking in the views upon arrival at this small lake you are greeted with chilly, clear, blue water. The 7 acre lake is nestled in a bowl near the top of the peak.

Reed Lakes, Hatcher Pass*

Approx. 30 minute drive from pickup location

Reed Lakes are guarded by a 4.3 mile (8.6 mile round trip) moderate to challenging trail. This will be an all day adventure, but well worth the incredible views!

Eagle and Symphony Lakes, Eagle River

Approx. 50 minute drive from pickup location

The South Fork Valley Trail is about 6 miles one way and is considered an easy hike. Most of the trail is open alpine with spectacular views of surrounding peaks. Pack a lunch, grab your board, and get ready for some stunning backdrops!

7 Mile Canoe Trail, Wasilla

Approx. 10 minute drive from pickup location

AK Paddle Venture favorite!

A one way, 7 mile canoe trail (no hiking necessary). If you are looking for a relaxing all day experience, this is the one for you! Traversing across 4 lakes, you will be greeted by scenic views and calm water. Because this is a one way stream/trail, you WILL need a car waiting for you at your end destination.

There are some portages to cross on this adventure!

Rabbit Slough, Palmer

Approx. 20 minute drive from pickup location

Another leisurely adventure is Rabbit Slough. This paddle can be up to almost 9 miles out and back, or it can be as short as you want. Keep in mind that every mile you go out you have to paddle back. The current is generally lazy but make sure you check the tide tables for the area or you may be in for a workout on your way back.

*This is a small lake. Part of the adventure is the journey! Paddling on the lake is limited.
